More than a buisiness leader.
This weekend, the nail industry lost a true pioneer. Jim Nordstrom was more than a business leader, he was part of the very foundation on which our professional industry stands today.
Born into innovation, Jim was the son of Dr. Stuart Nordstrom, who founded Creative Nail Design (CND) in 1979. What began in a garage became a global force, and Jim played a central role in that evolution. Alongside his sister Jan Arnold, he helped guide CND through decades of expansion, shaping not only products, but the standards, systems, and professionalism that define nail services today.

During his 17 years as CEO and Chairman, Jim helped elevate the nail industry into a respected professional category. At a time when education, safety, and consistency were still being established, his leadership contributed to building a structure that allowed nail technicians around the world to grow sustainable, respected careers.
But Jim’s story did not stop with CND.
In 2010, he co-founded Famous Names with his wife, Linda Nordstrom, and Lisa Hamilton. Together, they built a company rooted in purpose: creating best-in-class products exclusively for nail professionals while supporting education, technique, and business growth. Their philosophy, “Your Industry Is Our Industry,” was not just a tagline, it was a commitment Jim lived every day.

Through Famous Names, Jim helped introduce products that changed how we care for the natural nail. Dadi’ Oil became a staple in salons worldwide, while the IBX System redefined nail treatment by working within the nail plate to repair, strengthen, and protect. These innovations weren’t trends, they were solutions designed from decades of real industry experience.
Jim’s influence extended globally through his partnership with Sweet Squared in the UK and Ireland, where he continued to support distribution, education, and professional growth. He remained deeply involved in research and development, always focused on what would truly serve the working nail technician.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim was known for something equally important—his connection to people. He was a mentor, a collaborator, and a proud family man who built a business alongside his wife and welcomed his daughters into the industry he loved. His passion for innovation was matched by his passion for community.

Jim Nordstrom was one of those individuals who didn’t just participate in the industry, he helped define it.
At GlossaryLive, we often say that the nail industry is built on those who came before us. His legacy lives on in every classroom, every salon, every product, and every professional who continues to build on the foundation he helped create.
