People ask me this question all the time. "What exactly is GlossaryLive?"
The simple answer is that it's a professional nail education platform. But the truth is... it's become so much more than that.
If you've ever searched online for nail education, you've probably experienced the same thing I did. Today, there is an incredible amount of inspiration available, and I genuinely love that creativity has become so accessible. Social media has introduced millions of people to the beauty of nail artistry, and that's something worth celebrating. But inspiration and education aren't always the same thing.
Sometimes a three-hour service is condensed into a 30-second video. The finished result is beautiful, but so much of the thinking, product knowledge, technique, structure, and decision-making that happened along the way is impossible to understand in such a short moment. You leave inspired, but still wondering how it was really done. That realization stayed with me.
After more than thirty years as a nail technician, world champion competitor, educator, textbook author, training director, judge, and business owner, I knew there were countless professionals whose knowledge deserved to be shared, not just preserved. These were artists, educators, scientists, salon owners, competitors, judges, and innovators who had spent decades refining their craft. Some created breathtaking competition masterpieces. Others had an extraordinary gift for explaining the simplest salon technique in a way that could change someone's career forever.
One of the greatest lessons I've learned is that being an incredible artist and being an incredible educator are not always the same thing. Sometimes the lesson that transforms your work isn't an elaborate fantasy nail or an award-winning design. Sometimes it's learning a faster prep technique, a better way to hold your brush, understanding why a product behaves the way it does, or discovering a small adjustment that saves time while improving your results. Those lessons deserve to be celebrated just as much as the masterpieces. That's what I wanted GlossaryLive to become, not a place that only showcased "the best”, a place where passionate professionals could openly share what they know. Whether they were teaching a perfect salon French manicure, business strategies for growing a salon, competition techniques, photography, product chemistry, or master-level nail artistry, they had a place, to share their knowledge.
We thought we could build it in six months. Instead, it took two years. Every time we believed we were finished, another idea appeared, another artist deserved to be featured. Another educational format needed to exist, or another piece of our industry's story needed to be documented. The vision kept growing because our profession is simply too rich, too creative, and too important to fit inside a traditional educational website.
On July 12, 2022, GlossaryLive finally went live.
We launched with a single video and a simple mission: to create a trusted place where nail professionals could learn from professionals. Today, four years later, GlossaryLive has grown into something I never could have imagined.
Together with more than 152 artists from around the world, we've built a growing library of over 386 educational videos, hundreds of editorial articles, step-by-step tutorials, more than 300 glossary definitions, our Nails From A to Z podcast, artist interviews, business education, industry news, and enough content already in production to continue educating for many months ahead.
But if I'm being honest...The numbers aren't what make me proud. The people are.
Every educator who trusted us with their life's work. Every artist who opened their creative process to our cameras. Every competitor willing to explain not just what they do, but why they do it. Every judge, salon owner, inventor, chemist, product developer, and industry leader who believed that knowledge becomes more valuable when it's shared. And behind every one of those artists is another group of professionals who rarely stand in front of the camera, but whose fingerprints are on everything we create. Our team.
The producers, video editors, graphic designers, writers, photographers, developers, project managers and creative minds who have poured thousands of hours into making every lesson not only educational, but beautiful, engaging, and memorable. They have challenged ideas, refined concepts, solved impossible problems, and cared deeply about creating an experience worthy of the educators who entrusted us with their knowledge.
GlossaryLive has never just been my vision, it has always been a collaboration.
Over the past year, something else became very clear to me. GlossaryLive isn't simply a place to watch educational videos. It's becoming a living archive of our profession.
When industry legends like Jim Nordstrom leave us, their stories deserve to be remembered. When leaders like Alex Fox are recognized for decades of service, future nail technicians should know why that matters. When artists from Japan, Korea, Mexico, Canada, Hungary, Australia, the United Kingdom, and dozens of other countries share their knowledge, those lessons deserve a permanent home, not one that's eventually lost in an endless stream of content.
History matters. People matter. Our profession matters.
That realization inspired the next chapter.
Over the past six months, our team has been building a brand-new GlossaryLive from the ground up. On our fourth anniversary, we're proud to launch a completely redesigned website, one that finally reflects the beauty of the artists, the quality of the education, and the incredible depth of knowledge our global community has shared. It's easier to explore, more immersive to experience, and built around one purpose: helping nail professionals discover not only techniques, but the people, stories, and history behind them.
People sometimes ask me what success looks like. It isn't the number of videos we've produced. It isn't the number of articles we've written. It isn't even the number of subscribers.
Success is knowing that twenty years from now, someone entering this profession will still know who Tom Holcomb was. They'll discover Vicki Peters, Jim Nordstrom, and the countless educators, competitors, artists, innovators, and leaders who dedicated their lives to moving this profession forward. They'll understand that the nail industry wasn't built overnight. It was built by passionate people who believed that nails deserve respect, education, creativity, professionalism, and excellence.
Because professions that remember their history build stronger futures.
